The Princess has become the joint royal patron of the trust along with Prince William, who has been President since 2007.
Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, was appointed patron of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation in 1989 and held the role until her death in 1997.
Today’s visit to the site just off Fulham Road, which was her first of 2025, was also described as an important moment in Kate’s personal cancer journey.
The Princess of Wales also announced that she is in remission from cancer.
Royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills was with her on her visit.
Dame Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“We were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales to The Royal Marsden in Chelsea this morning, and are delighted that Her Royal Highness is now joining His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in becoming Joint Patrons of our specialist cancer centre. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has been President of The Royal Marsden since 2007 and has been a wonderful supporter of our work for nearly two decades. We are incredibly fortunate to receive Royal Patronage – it is inspiring for staff and patients and enables us to shine a light on the outstanding work our staff deliver every day for patients and their families.
We are excited to have the opportunity to engage with both TRH The Prince and The Princess of Wales as our joint Patrons in future.”
