Trustee of the Thin Blue Paw Foundation Kieran Stanbridge said: “We’re really concerned to hear that the Metropolitan Police has proposed cuts to its dog unit in a bid to make up a £450m budget shortfall.

“Police dogs play a vital role within our communities – particularly our cities – to help fight crime, assist in high-risk operations, find missing people, and keep the public safe.

“These dogs are highly trained and can achieve tasks in minutes which would take officers hours, making them incredibly efficient and effective. We must continue to support our dog units and protect their specialist skills.

“Our thoughts are with all staff at the Metropolitan Police who are concerned about their future with the force.”
