Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a blaze at a recycling site in Wimbledon last night.

A pile of domestic waste has been destroyed by fire in a single storey building on Weir Road, which was under control by 7:34AM this morning.

London Fire Brigade are advising local residents to shut their doors and windows due to the smoke.

It is likely that firefighters will remain on scene dampening down deep-seated pockets of fire throughout the day.
