It happened at just after 8.30 on Thursday evening on the westbound stretch near junction 4.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 40’s, was taken to hospital where his injuries are said to be life changing.
The driver of one of the cars, a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and careless driving.
