A four-week safety review of gravestones is going to take place across Spelthorne in the new year.

Headstones are the responsibility of the grave owner, but the Council has an obligation to make sure visitors to cemeteries are safe.

If a headstone is thought to be unsafe, it will be carefully staked and banded.

The council says only when absolutely necessary, will a memorial be laid flat and, in that case, the owner will be contacted.
