The meeting was disrupted by 20 protesters from community group, Protect Shepherd’s Bush Market.
The meeting of the Planning and Development Control Committee was set to approve plans by Yoo Capital to redevelop Shepherd’s Bush Market after the Council’s planning department had recommended councillors vote the plans through.
Protect Shepherd’s Bush Market stated that the Council “planned to waive through the gentrification of a 109 year old market without even the pretence of listening to concerns” and that “Yoo Capital’s plans would destroy the character and diversity of our market”.
33 traders, around half those permanently trading at the market, submitted a letter to Hammersmith & Fulham Council opposing Yoo Capital’s planning application.
The letter raised concerns “that Yoo Capital’s plans would mean big rent increases which would push traders out of the market”.
We’ve contacted the council for comment.
