The NHS has revealed the figures and is asking women not to turn down or ignore invites which are sent every 3 to 5 years.
They can be more frequent if the high-risk human papillomavirus is detected.
Only 68.7% of 25 to 64 year-olds have attended screening within the recommended period of time in the last year.
That’s compared to 69.9% the previous year.
