The brigade was called to a house in Blake Road just before 5 o’clock on Monday evening.
Half of the ground floor was damages, and a dog was rescued from the building.
There are no reports of any other injuries.
The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by combustible items placed too close to a heat source.
