Tries from Chandler Cunningham-South, Guido Petti Pagadizabal, Jamie Benson, Hayden Hyde and Sam Riley, with four conversions from Marcus Smith, earned Quins a single bonus point from this game.
The hosts were on the back foot from the first whistle, giving away two tries in quick succession, but remained in the fight only three points behind at half-time. They continued their fightback after the break, taking and extending the lead, before Sale Sharks came back in the 62nd minute. From there, they exploited the many penalties given away by Harlequins and piled on the pressure.
In the end it was a simple game of numbers. In a 13-try game Harlequins only scored five.
