Works has begun to get rid of the infamous Wet Wipe Island near Hammersmith Bridge.

The Port of London Authority is to take away around 180 tonnes of congealed wet wipes that have built up over the recent decades.

That’s the equivalent to the weight of 15 double-decker London buses.

Speaking to Jackie News on a previous occasion, Liz Gyekye from charity, Thames 21, explains why wet wipes are such a huge problem.
