What’s being described as a world-first sound research facility is being developed at the University of Surrey.

It’s being funded by £2.2 million from the UK’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

The AURORA centre features a high tech “silent room” and a space that can mimic noises like cathedral ambience or a busy street.

Scientists will use the sounds to improve AI voice assistants, hearing aids and VR.
