Storks were once an integral part of the UK’s wildlife.

But they were extinct by the 15th century due to hunting, changing landscapes and loss of nesting sites.

Citizen Zoo’s White Stork Project is trying to identify suitable areas of the capital where they could be reintroduced.

Storks prefer open wetlands, pastures, and farmland, but can thrive near human settlements.

They already breed successfully in many inhabited regions including the working towns of the Algarve like Faro.

Citizen Zoo last week reintroduced water voles to the Hogsmill in Ewell.
