Wandsworth Prison has had its worst year for inhumane conditions.

That’s according to the Independent Monitoring Board.

It’s new report has found around 1,200 inmates are sharing “squalid, dirty and cramped” living conditions in crumbling single cells.

11 months since the alleged escape of inmate Daniel Khalife, it also revealed staff are often unsure of prisoners’ whereabouts.

Wandsworth Prison is being given £100 million over the next 5 years by the government following a “damning inspection” in May.

It found the institution was severely overcrowded, with 80% of men sharing cells designed for one person.

Failures are being blamed on decaying infrastructure, staffing issues, insufficient management and lack of financial support.
