Two officers have been cleared of misconduct following the death of Mikias Tekeste at Croydon custody centre.

Tekeste swallowed drugs during transport after his arrest in 2023; he later became unwell and died from cocaine toxicity.

An investigation criticised supervision but a disciplinary hearing found the officers acted appropriately.

Detective Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn acknowledged the officers’ duty of care and Tekeste’s responsibility for his actions.
