Richmond Council says this method has been chosen as they are “excellent natural filters and remove pollutants from water.”
Reedbeds store water during a flood, and it’s hoped they will slow the flow around the Beverley Brook to prevent homes being deluged.
The council is also hoping they’ll help play a crucial role in restoring wildlife as species like dragonflies and damselflies rely on them.
