Government statutory homelessness figures released last July revealed 169,050 children were homeless in temporary accommodation in England which was the 12% increase in a year and the ninth consecutive record since December 2022.

The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, responded by saying Labour had inherited a record number of households in temporary accommodation and was easing the situation by ending Section 21 no fault evictions and investing over £30 billion in house building.
