Those over 50 are being encouraged to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Figures show that age group accounted for 63% of donations after death, last year.

Despite that, only one in four people aged 50 plus are on the registered list.

NHS Blood and Transplant, who has centres in Twickenham and Tooting, believes that’s because they mistakenly think they’re too old to donate.
