The company has agreed that the “sweetening flow” should not be put into the river above Teddington Lock.
This means 15 million litres of effluent will not be piped into this section of the river daily.
It will, instead, be diverted to the main Mogden Sewage outflow site at Isleworth.
Campaigners against the Teddington Abstraction Plan say although they feel it is still ill conceived, this is a step in the right direction.
