The Royal Parks says deer populations are actively managed to keep herds at a sustainable size and to prevent overcrowding.
The six-week long cull, which started at the weekend, is for the female herd while the males are culled each February.
The Royal Parks says contraception is not a viable way to manage herd numbers.
