The ringleader of an organised crime group that attempted to smuggle a Class A drug inside bananas into the UK has been convicted.

56-year-old Sadjid Ali was arrested at Heathrow airport in January whilst boarding a flight to Istanbul, where he was living at the time.

Four men working for Ali have already been jailed for 62 years after being caught importing bananas filled with £11m worth of cocaine.

Ali was convicted at Coventry Crown court yesterday and is due to be sentenced on the 16th of October.
