The popular route between Richmond Lock and Kew Gardens was closed after a section of it collapsed during flooding last October.
Richmond Council says the delay is due to challenging ground conditions impacting the installation of sheet piling equipment.
The authority says the work is crucial to reinforcing the riverbank.
