The number of wildfires in Surrey almost doubled between 2022 and last year.

Firefighters have also spent over 13,000 hours attending wildfire incidents in the last year alone.

Residents and visitors to the county are being urged to be on their guard ahead of the summer months.

They’re being advised not to use camping stoves or open fires and to make sure smoking materials are completely extinguished.

Landowners are also being urged to make sure dense areas of vegetation are kept neat and tidy.
