Sir Ed Davey was the minister in charge of the service between 2010 and 2012 and initially dismissed talks because he “followed advice and didn’t question it”.
He also told the official inquiry that he was sorry that victims were prosecuted for theft, despite the IT programme being faulty.
But the MP for Kingston and Surbiton also insisted that he was “seriously misled by the Post Office” when he asked questions about the scandal:
