The Leader of Merton Council has written to the All England Lawn Tennis Club for assurance over a new 8,000 seater stadium.

Ross Garrod is seeking clarity on how the club intends to adhere to covenants on the land it has earmarked for development.

Merton Council agreed on Thursday that a proposal for the stadium on the former Wimbledon Park Golf Course can ago ahead.

That’s despite a petition against the plans amassing more than 12,000 signatures.
