Professor Philip Banfield earned his medical degree at St George’s Hospital Medical School in Tooting.
He will tell the British Medical Association’s annual meeting later that the current one has become an “abject failure.”
He believes one organisation should oversee doctors and another handle other “medical professionals” to keep their roles clear.
