The first transatlantic flight by an airliner powered only by plant-based fuel including cooking oil has taken off from Heathrow.

The Virgin Atlantic plane is heading to New York.

The Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, claims it’s a “big step forward” for greener travel.

But critics say the fuel only makes up a tiny fraction of what’s available globally and it won’t cut carbon emissions.
