Police were called to the beauty spot at 12.15 yesterday lunchtime.
Officers are looking for a man in his 30s who was in the area at the time and may be able to help with enquiries.
Police say the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious but they are appealing for information so they can work out what happened.
They believe he may have been fishing close to the Stepping Stones.
Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area, or driving through and has dashcam footage, between the hours of 8am and 1pm yesterday on the A24, London Road.
In particular, they are looking to speak to a man who was in the area and may have information which could help enquiries.
He is described as around 30-years-old, White, approximately 5ft 10in in height, of slim build with very short dark hair.
He wasn’t wearing a top but was wearing dark coloured shorts, trainers and was carrying a dark coloured rucksack with a red fishing rod tied to it.
The man was also riding a dark coloured mountain bike and spoke with an accent, possibly Eastern European.
