Amelia and Matilda Buttler are part of Hammersmith and Fulham’s RAF Air Cadets Squadron.
The 15-year-old pupils from Lady Margaret School passed a tough London-wide selection to join the expedition.
31 Air Cadets are heading out to Peru, with Amelia and Matilda the youngest taking part.
The coming months involve regular training sessions to make sure the girls are prepared for the challenging conditions they’ll face during their expedition in August.
The group will help build the school and nursery, as well as having the chance to climb Rainbow Mountain and the 15th century Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, with altitudes reaching 5,000m above sea level.
Having never travelled beyond Europe, the sisters say their special bond as twins will help give the support they need during tough moments.
Matilda says: “We are fit and strong, but we are aware that these are challenging conditions for two 15-years-olds. Having a twin sister is like having your best friend with you all the time, which will be a comfort being so far from home.
“Although the expedition is going to be physically and mentally challenging, we also know how important it is for us to fundraise for the project too.”
