Surrey’s Highways team has won a prestigious national engineering award thanks to its work stabilising a major route.

Surrey County Council has been recognised at the Ground Engineering Awards.

The Highways team worked with engineers Geobear to develop a solution to stabilise deep clay soil beneath the Hog’s Back.

The geopolymer treatment injected was the first of its kind in the UK.

It successfully stabilised the clay soil in just 2 weeks.

This means the project significantly reduced the duration and impact of roadworks on residents.

The council says the method also reduced CO2 emissions by at least 62% compared to more traditional methods.
