The county’s 39 vehicles, named by schoolchildren, will treat busy routes using 10,000 tonnes of salt from four depots.
Two new mini gritters will cover harder-to-reach roads and 1,000 grit bins have been filled at tricky junctions and on slopes and bends.
The council says it is committed to keeping drivers safe and will work closely with the Met Office throughout the season.
