Surrey Police has “over-shot” its officer recruitment targets.

That’s despite the fact that around £18 million worth of savings still needs to be found over the next four years.

Surrey is the only county in England and Wales where taxpayers contribute more towards police funding than the government does.

Police and Crime Commissioner, Lisa Townsend, says residents of the county recognise the importance of having a robust police force.

Meanwhile, an estimated £2.5m from central government is expected to add to some 200 extra officers who have joined the force since 2021.
