Surrey Fire and Rescue says it has removed a social media post about a Pride event because of homophobic and disrespectful replies.

Statement in full;

“We’ve decided to remove our recent post about the UK Fire Pride conference held last week. It was intended to share and celebrate a successful learning event focused on better understanding and support for our diverse communities.

We’re deeply disappointed by the nature of some replies, many of which were disrespectful and homophobic, targeting both the event and individuals involved.

We will continue to block individuals who breach our social media guidelines: https://surreycc.gov.uk/website/social-media-and-podcasts

We are proud to have hosted the event and will not tolerate hate directed at our colleagues or the communities we serve.”
