Some Idverde staff who provide grounds maintenance and horticultural services on behalf of the council walked out on Monday.
The action, which is due to end on Sunday before starting again next Wednesday, is part of an internal pay dispute with Idverde.
The strike action involves staff working across s areas including open parks litter collection, cemeteries and burials and grass cutting.
