Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon, said: “The regeneration of Croydon town centre remains a top priority for me and I have been working with a range of external partners to drive forward my Town Centre Vision and Growth Plan for the borough.

“Our partnership with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield is fundamental to the town centre regeneration and they have given assurances that recent speculation around the sale of Whitgift and Centrale shopping centres is not accurate.

“I will continue to work with URW and other partners in transforming our town centre and securing much-needed improvements for everyone who lives, works and visits Croydon.”

Adam Smith, Strategic Development Director at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said: “URW is committed to working with all partners in Croydon to create a revitalised town centre including thousands of homes with URW playing the role of an urban masterplan developer. Earlier this year Croydon Council endorsed our masterplan framework for the North End Quarter and we will be launching a second round of consultations on this next week to engage the local community and stakeholders on shaping our plans.

“As well as a number of community partnerships and the upcoming Costa Del Croydon roof-top beach event, we are excited to launch a new retail offer at Allders this autumn. This follows substantial works to revive this much-loved Croydon landmark, bringing it back into use as a space the community can enjoy, while preserving its heritage.”

URW have created a Masterplan Framework to redevelop the North End Quarter into a vibrant, mixed use centre of shops, cultural venues, public spaces and homes. It was endorsed by Croydon’s planning committee in February.
