South Western Railway is expanding its use of body-worn cameras.

The train operator says it’s because it has recorded more than two assaults per day on staff so far this year.

SWR first introduced body-worn video cameras in customer-facing roles, such as train guards and gate line assistants, in 2021.

The cameras capture 30 seconds of footage prior to activation.

A recent study by the University of Cambridge suggested the cameras can reduce the likelihood of assault against the wearer by 47%.
