Smoking in Wandsworth is leading to more than 500 deaths in the borough every year.

The council’s own research estimates around 20,000 residents still smoke, which is one in eight adults.

The authority says there are around 1,200 hospital admissions annually due to the habit.

It also costs an estimated £211 million across health and social care in lost productivity and environmental waste.

The authority says it is making good progress however, on becoming a smoke-free borough by 2030.
