Brighter Together, one of the finalists for the council’s Community Heroes Awards this year, has won the intergenerational activity category at the recent Dementia Care Awards.
Brighter Together was nominated for its work in delivering outstanding intergenerational activities which enhance the lives of those living with dementia.
It was praised for its innovation and impact for programme participants, particularly for those affected by dementia.
Richmond Council says Intergenerational activities have been proven to have extraordinary benefits for older participants, such as improving wellbeing and cognitive functioning as well as tackling social isolation.
There are also numerous benefits for the children involved, including improving confidence, communication skills, concentration levels and developing their sense of empathy and understanding of others.
Brighter Together aims to provide socially isolated older people a valuable sense of purpose by regularly bringing children into their lives for structured, activity-based sessions.
