It’s after a large lorry struck it last week, causing the complete collapse of the supporting stonework.

The council says it will be taking action to ensure that those responsible cover the full costs of repair and at no cost to taxpayers.

The external pathway repairs are expected to be completed this week, and the gate and stonework as soon as possible afterwards.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The Albert Gate was damaged in an accidental collision which thankfully didn’t result in any injuries.

“We will be taking action to ensure that those responsible cover the costs of repair in full, at no cost to local taxpayers.

“We know how much residents love Battersea Park and we are working hard to make sure the stonework is repaired and the iconic Albert Gate reopened as soon as possible.

“In the meantime, people can use one of the other entrances to continue to enjoy the park, although the gate will remain open for vehicle access.”
