The proposed block would have replaced a nine-storey office building at the corner of Battersea Bridge Road.
The picture above shows how it would have looked.
Campaign group Friends of Battersea Riverside led the objections, with support from Mick Jagger and council leader Simon Hogg.
Leader of the Council, Simon Hogg, said “The Committee is responsible for the scrutiny of applications and considers the merits of an application on paper as well as the voices of residents. The committee were unanimous about the harms of a 29-storey tower in this location, in breach of Wandsworth’s Local Plan which sets out acceptable heights for the area.”
Council officers had recommended the application for refusal due to its height and scale in comparison to the local area, which goes against the guidelines set out the borough’s Local Plan and the London Plan.
