People across South West London are being encouraged to give the gift of blood this Christmas.

NHS Blood and Transplant is asking O negative people to book in for a session at its donation centre in Twickenham over the festive period.

O negative is the universal blood type and can be given to anyone in an emergency.

Only 8% of the population have O negative blood but it accounts for around 14% of the blood hospitals need.
