The council says it’s to help prevent dangerous fires in bin trucks and waste facilities and protect recycling crew staff.

Items that should never be placed in your general bin include household batteries and disposable barbecues.

The latter should be completely cold before being disposed of.

Small electricals containing lithium-ion batteries, such as rechargeable vapes and e-cigarettes are also listed.

And Nitrous oxide cylinders must be specially removed by waste crews as they are “highly explosive.”

The council says when these items are crushed under the weight of other waste in collection trucks, they can ignite rapidly.
