One of the first lung transplant patients to have a skin patch from his donor says the method gave him an early warning of organ rejection.

Darren White, from Stockton-on-Tees, says his patch developed a purple rash, meaning he needed to be treated straight away.

It cut the 53-year old’s chance of having permanent lung damage.

NHS Blood and Transplant has centres across the country, including in Tooting.

The organisation’s Innovation & Research Lead Emma Lawson says the Sentinel trial is vital.
