Merton’s Lib Dems are calling for an emergency council meeting over plans to close Wimbledon and Mitcham police station front counters.

The Met Police wants to cut the number of front counters across London from 37 to 19, saving £7million of a £260 million budget gap.

The Lib Dems say crime in Merton has risen, with their research showing drug possession is up 8% and sexual offences are up 15%.

They say the Mayor of London is breaking his manifesto pledge to keep a 24/7 front counter in every borough.
