They say fresh round of strikes followed by the Bank Holiday weekend are set to ramp up pressures further.
Some consultants took part in strike action on Thursday and Friday providing what is known as “Christmas Day cover” only.
As a result, members of the public are being urged to use NHS services “wisely” over the next few days.
