NHS Blood and Transplant says it is receiving calls from donors concerned about whether their appointment to donate will still go ahead.

The team says it is keen to reassure donors and also has an ongoing urgent need for more people with O negative blood to come forward and donate.

An NHS Blood and Transplant spokesperson says:

“NHS Blood and Transplant are calling on Londoners to book and keep appointments to donate blood to boost NHS resilience at this time. There remains a particularly urgent need for O negative blood. Blood donation systems are not affected and we currently have a high number of appointments available at our donor centres across London this weekend and over coming days and weeks. Blood is needed 24/7, 365 days a year so we urgently need people to keep coming forward in coming days, weeks and months to ensure we have the blood needed by hospitals across the capital and wider country.”

To register to donate or to book or change an appointment, visit blood.co.uk or call 0300 123 23 23.
