Live opera performances are popping up across Merton, Croydon and Wandsworth in a bid to bring the art form to new audiences.

From cafés to libraries, unexpected venues are being transformed into intimate opera stages in July and August by Baseless Fabric Theatre.

The performers, all trained opera singers and musicians, want to break down barriers and bring opera to people who wouldn’t usually see it.

The group’s first performance was in a supermarket in Colliers Wood before moving on to a pub and finishing in the foyer of the library.
