Lambeth Council says it is spending more than £500,000 a year clearing fly-tips.

The cash-strapped authority says the money “would be much better spent on parks, youth services or supporting vulnerable people.”

People who illegally fly tip can face fines of up to £50,000, and in some cases, prosecution.

Residents are being urged to turn the costly situation around, dispose of their unwanted goods correctly and stop wasting public money.
