Illegally dumped commercial and household waste will be investigated before it is cleared away.
The authority says fines will be issued where necessary and residents are being urged to flag up fly-tip hotspots.
The five town centres being targeted are Brixton, Streatham, Clapham, Waterloo and West Norwood.
