Kingston can now officially call itself a Council of Sanctuary.

It’s been handed the status by charity, City of Sanctuary UK, for the work it’s doing to help refugees.

The achievement is a culmination of the council’s work with a number of organisations and charities.

These include Refugee Action Kingston, the Migrant Advocacy Service and St Mary’s Ukrainian School.

Kingston joins other authorities including Wandsworth and Richmond who also hold the title.
