A number of children in north London have required hospital treatment after a fast-moving measles outbreak spread across several schools.
There are reports of more than 60 suspected cases in Enfield, with some needing hospital treatment.
Parents are being urged to make sure their child’s vaccinations are up to date.
Herd immunity for measles requires that approximately 95% of a population be immune through vaccination or previous infection to prevent sustained, community-wide outbreaks.
Dr Nick Merrifield is the lead GP at Holmwood Corner Surgery in New Malden.
He says there’s a few reasons why take-up of the MMR vaccine has fallen.
